Description

Water covers 71% of the earth’s surface, sure.

But increasingly we wonder about the water we drink. And when we swim in anything but a pool … or fish or boat … what’s the quality of that water?

Lakes, rivers, beaches. Some of these waters are contaminated a little. Some are contaminated a lot.

At WaterGoodness.org, we’re seeking every authoritative datapoint on water quality we can lay hands on— and when we do, it goes on our Google map.

We have volumes of what we call institutional data, from the EPA and the USGS among others. Real-time, and near-real-time data.

We show what you’d expect-- existence of bacteria, lead, pesticides-- and also more esoteric measures like Turbidity, which we explain, too. And we reflect flow-rates— long-term changes in the rate of streamflow have a material impact on water quality.

But we need the wisdom of the crowd, too. Get a kit (cost is typically <$25) and test the water coming out of the tap at your home or business, whether it comes from the local utility or from a well. And/or get a kit to test the water in your local bay, lake, pond, reservoir, river, ocean or stream.

And send those results in to us at report@watergoodness.org -- we’ll show your datapoint instantly on our map, with a timestamp. Of course, we won’t reveal your last name— just first name last initial (such as Emma C.) or whatever you like.

We're all about shining a bright light on America’s waters, in every state and locale.
