CallCongress.net hosts an ongoing dialogue between legislators and constituents. After registering an account and at least one phone number, users can call Senators and Representatives through the website. The calls (hosted on the CallCongress.net server) are recorded and posted online (with notes and descriptive tags) for others to hear.
It's too easy for legislators to avoid tough questions and use hard-to-find vague statements to obscure their real views. CallCongress.net aims to increase transparency by keeping a public record of citizen dialogue with legislators -- to encourage both an increase in clarity and publicity in their positions and an increase in correspondence between legislators and constituents.
CallCongress.net is launching as a blank slate -- users will decide the most important issues and legislators to contact in the early stages. Eventually, CallCongress.net will include features such as followup calls -- continuous dialogues based on a focused subject area -- and call campaigns -- a way to engage your friends, family or members of your organization to call legislators about certain issues.
